I wonder if others have had positive experience with hypnosis to stop the nail biting habit?
I had four hypnotherapy sessions about ten years ago (geared to stopping nail biting and overcoming confidence issued) and they didn't have any impact that I could see so as it was expensive I gave up. Then just a few weeks ago, someone asked me why I had such gorgeous toe-nails - and this is the first year that I have managed that achievement! I told them that I wished, I wished, I wished I could have lovely finger nails and I really thought about it that night, thinking I must have yet another go at trying to stop after endless failed attempts over the past 35 years.
I do not know whether my own desire for change kicked the hypnosis into taking effect, or it was some other strange effect. All I know is that without really thinking about it I stopped biting them for a few weeks, some nails emerged, and I have hardly bitten them for six weeks now. I am taking enormous care of them, cutting them short and putting oil on them every day as well as nail strengthener and basecoat, and it is amazing how after decades of being abused they seem to be happy to have another go!
I don't know if I can keep them : I know from the past that weeks of successful growth can be demolished in a stressful day. But I will be trying my best, and wonder if there is much evidence of hypnotherapy working?
